Feast of St. Francis

Christine at Abbey of the Arts reminded me (thank you!) today is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. Piper received his blessing at a special service at this Cathedral in October 2004. I recall being amazed at how quiet and reverential the service was — there were more coughs and sniffles from the two-legged beasts than barks and meows from the four-legged creatures.
As usual, Christine has written a beautiful post that I will be re-reading several times today. Here are the thoughtful questions she asks here reader to reflect on:
How might we celebrate the creatures of our lives and what they teach us about God? How do you experience nature singing praise to the divine source of all that is? What might our praise of God be like if we truly entered into song in communion with the earth and her creatures? Does our vision of the Kin-dom of God include a true sense of communion with all?
To help put my mind and heart in the right spaces and help me answer these questions, I did a quick search and found an Order for the Blessing of the Animals at this site.
