Snow-bird-dog-day afternoon
December 2, 2007 by Elaine
Yesterday while walking in the snow, I kept my eyes on the sidewalk as I observed the interesting patterns created by feet and bicycle tires. (Fortunately, no evidence of falls or crashes.) My favourite tracks were these:

What looks like dirty snow is a scattering of sunflower seeds surrounded by faint bird footprints, partially covered by falling snow.
I tried to get images of Piper enjoying the snowy wonder, like a normal dog — but he doesn’t bound or romp or spin or wiggle or roll. He just rubs his nose and whiskers in it one or twice — and that’s about the extent of his exuberance. Sigh. It looks silly for me to do all the cavorting on my own.
Could he be thinking “Well, Elaine, if you really want me to cavort, take off this silly black velvet jacket”?

I’m sure he’s thinking nothing of the sort! It’s a very smart jacket, and little dogs need to keep warm. He’s probably just naturally contemplative…
Your Piper is a little cutie! Especially in the jacket.
Oh Tess, I smiled when I read your comment. I’ve never interpreted Piper’s alert, inquisitive (occasionally defiant) gaze as being that of a contemplative. I suspect his reflective thoughts may centre on food, squirrels, and play, though.
Thanks for visiting, Christine. Yes, I’d love a smart little jacket like his on these cold days. I’m usually in less chic but certainly more practical fleece and Gortex.
oh, he is such a cutie!!
elaine, your blog is my personal little breathing room. Thanks for creating this lovely space and allowing my scrunched up shoulders to fall.
Hello Miss E.
Oh dear, do you scrunch up your shoulders, too? Mine were up to my ears this morning — until I read your kind comment.
I’m so glad you find this blog a place where you can exhale. See you later this week at your place
I’m coming by for a visit.
